Never heard em though I, too, have heard that they're supposed to be good.

Genres are fine. The only thing that limits an artist is the artist 
themself/ves. There are some amazing doom metal bands to be had. Thou are the 
first who come to mind. More like blackened-doom with healthy doses of 
post-rock. Check out their new album "Summit". Really, really good.

Just joking about the ambient. I know you also enjoy trance. ;)

I personally hate genres being slapped on artists. It limits them.
