Without oil, everything would literally grind to a halt
Even a disruption to the oil supply would cause petrol prices to rise, which , as has been previously shown, would  cause
prices of everything to rise which would cause inflation . Food, clothes and every other commodity would rise in price.
Oil is vital for the economy and its the Governments job to make sure that we receive a regular supply of oil . 
I wounder how many of the "its all about oil brigade" were protesting at the petrol stations about the cost of petrol
