Just got back from Manchester gig, unfeasibly knackered.
Same setlist as Nottingham but we did get one extra song - we sang Happy
Birthday to Big Paul (and the crowd were considerably more in tune than Jaz,
I might add).
The smallish venue was packed and there was a good atmosphere throughout.
Some feedback issues marred the sound quality but not too much. They really
gave it their all.
Highlights for me where the new stuff and the WTF! tracks (you can tell how
much Youth and Geordie love playing those). 'The Great Cull' really got the
crowd going. I also enjoyed hearing what Big Paul can bring to 'Communion'
and 'Pandemonium'. 'Depthcharge' seemed to be the most popular toilet track!
Jaz gave civilisation 18 months tops and then, in a rare if not unique
moment of self-awareness, added "although I have said that before."
Towards the end of the gig he requested that if anyone knew Peter Hook
please ask him to get in touch!
Can't tell you anything about the support band, Swimming, as I couldn't be
bothered to move from the comfy sofa I'd managed to hog before the gig.
Some decent merch including a t-shirt I've not seen before but as I had to
buy my ticket from a tout I couldn't justify the inevitably overpriced
products so all I came home with was a ticket stub and some priceless
memories.
Can't imagine how tomorrow/tonight will go. Sitting down at KJ gig seems
very odd to me but hope it's enjoyable somehow.
