[kj] OT: The Cure

True story: in 1987 The Mission were playing in New York. A long-standing
Mission
roadie called Jez used to do an absolutely spot-on Robert Smith impression
and
they decided to put it to the test. During the encore at the gig Wayne
Hussey
announced a very special guest and on walked Jez in Smith
wig/lipstick/eyeliner.
They then proceeded to do one of the Cure's big hits at the time (can't
remember which one),
Jez also doing a fantastic imitation of his voice. The crowd went nuts.
After the song
he ran backstage but was chased by some fans/industry people who wanted
autographs.
He ran into a dressing room and slammed the door before they could catch
him, changed
back into his clothes and lost the wig and make up, then opened the door.
The people
gathered outside asked if they could speak to Robert but Jez opened the door
wide
to show them he wasn't in there, and they must surely be mistaken (the room
had no
other door, or even windows). He then nonchalantly walked out, leaving a
crowd of people
staring totally mystified into the empty room. I don't think they ever
worked it out.

That's the only time I've seen The Cure!
