I agree there was good stuff on Cut the Crap. Thing was, times were changing. It was what, 1985 by then? They came on like the last of punk. Them and the UK Subs... I saw them on the last tour around that time. Only Joe left & a bunch of kids, with maybe Paul hidden in there somewhere amongst all the tellys on the stage. Or not. Yeah, production, style of writing. We are the Clash, remember that song? Sounded like he was cannibalizing the very ethos of the past, if you will excuse the term. Interestingly he commented that Mick was acting like Gloria Swanson then and The Clash - before and after book bears this out, with a later portrayal of an 'older and wiser' Mick meeting the uber-roadie author years later. I saw him at the Carbon Silicon gigs, at the bar. He looked very intense, him being in a gig-environment and all.
In the end there was lots of money in the name alone I think. So you got a mohawk - punk on the corrogated sheet-metal cover when actually they hadn't worn gear like that for years - Mick n Paul had gone into trilby's and suits - proper old West-London stylie. Mighty Joe however was still The Clash and so still 'punk'... There on the stage in his leathers, coming on throwing a cartwheel, mohawked at how old? After that, according to the Campfire Songs film, he was burned out. Floating around the world, thinking of his brother, sitting by fires. Nearest thing to God alive with a tired, burned - out look. In the brilliant Liverpool Royal Court gig on the last tour, he didnt speak to the audience. Just worked through the songs we loved. The hits...
But fuck, he meant it.
Sitting here in my safe european home,Dont wanna go back there again.

The story about the Clash split also that the manager was behind it more than Joe. It's great that he'll release some old songs. As for "Cut the Crap", I'm probably the sole human on
the planet who thinks there is some good stuff on it (Three Card Trick, North and South) but of course the production was horrible--again the fault of the manager, not the band.

Yes, saw them at The Roxy recently for my first time and they were great! They played pretty much old stuff then that BAD II crap! Mick was having a great time. About Jones getting the boot from The Clash is.... Joe Strummer really regretted that and wanted to get Mick and The Clash back together again after that failure of putting a new band back together and that shity album "Cut The Crap". But by this time Mick was already established with BAD and that was not going to happen. He regretted kicking Mick out and could see what he was trying to do and liked it. Also, I'm sure you know this?... Joe Strummer wrote a lot of songs with Mick and co-produced the "No. 10 Upping St." album. Mick just wrote too he will be releasing un released recordings that they did together soon as well. Here....

Has anyone seen the big 2011 BAD reunion tour? (I know they played the UK before the US). This will be their first US tour in 21 years. I saw them several times
in Boston back in the days and it was always fun (although BAD II sucked b/c they were obsessed with house music). From the youtube clips it sounds like they're
focusing more on the rock sound than the disco one (after all, isn't that why Mick got fired from the Clash?).
And for all the greatness of BAD, try watching a clip back to back w/a Strummer and the Mescaleros one. There is no comparison in terms of Strummer's direct,
pure emotional impact. There's even a clip of Sprinsteen (considered one of the greatest live performers in the history of rock) covering "Coma Girl", and it sounds
quite lame compated to the orignal.
