Flamethrowers....flamethrowers...weedkiller and motorbike suits n' helmets n' big Japanese swords...

Amazing plants though. Didn't they form a band? (Robert Plant was not involved...)

Did not like the ending of the Izzard version. Sorry. Of course he walks away from a plane crash. He's Eddie Izzard?

Part One of a great remake was aired on the Syfy channel on Monday night.

Whereas the original film had people blinded watching an intense meteor shower (rather implausible) this version centres on a much anticipated solar storm during which the sun suddenly spews out an intense burst of energy, brighter than a thousand suns no less (again, a bit far-fetched but slightly more plausible than the original considering all the hype over solar cycles and the whole “2012” industry). As for the triffids, rather than a few examples in Kew Gardens they had been identified as a great renewable energy source and farms had sprung up on a industrial scale generating fuel, Triffoil !!!

Anyway, if you have access to the Syfy channel, part 1 is being shown again on Sunday 8pm BST with part 2 on Monday night at 9pm. Part one was entertaining stuff if nothing else.

Of course, we were saying “hang on, there would be far more people who’d have not witnessed it” and “even if it was worldwide, wouldn’t the impact be staggered so others would get an advance warning”, that sort of thing but part 1 was still good though quite how Eddie Izzard walked out a crash landed jumbo jet with just a few scratches (after some quick thinking) was maybe meant to be a slightly comical moment.

Regards, Antoni
