Weird, KJ get hassled for being “chugga chugga metal by numbers” e.g. on 2003, then some claim they’re “not metal”
THIS is metal:

Bo would have laughed and called it Hard Rock… between mouthfuls of cheese and beer =)

To say there' s no "metal" in Killing Joke is, sorry, an oversight. For a start, the band would entirely cop to being influenced by it. Droves of metal bands have cited them as an influence. Seriously -- you can't hear the metal heaviosity in, "Pandemonium" or "The Wait"?
Obviously, the Joke are not SIMPLY a metal band, but they're not SIMPLY a punk band or SIMPLY a post-punk band (cue debate over that definition) or SIMPLY an industrial band (although, personally speaking, I've never understood how they got lumped in with industrial). They defy categorization, and proudly so.
Killing Joke -- unpigeonholeable, just how it should be.
