No I’m from New Zealand, we don’t have confectionary, occasionally a cow will get into a berry patch and the milk will go a bit sweet, that’s about it.

Does he say ‘spangled new age’ or ‘thank god new age’ – just idly wondering.

Fucking brilliant song, the way he spits the lyrics out…

Yeah, Tomorrow's World, S036, and Requiem are my top favorite from '80.

Haven't heard much mention of this song in particular, but to me it's
probably the best on 1980, and one of my top 5 KJ tracks.

They open with it sometimes?

Just received a copy of 'Rip It Up And Start Again: postpunk 1978-1984' by Simon Reynolds (publisher: Faber and Faber 2005). It has a few pages about Killing Joke. Has anyone else read it?

Yes, yes and indeed yes.
?
I quite liked it, despite the fact that KJ don't actually get much space and are generally described as a goth band. Even so, he's obviously done a lot of listening and a lot of research. He covers acts that have been largely ignored elsewhere, and has certainly pointed me in the direction of some decent music. I don't agree with all of his conclusions or his ideas, but it's an excellent read and likely to be the only one of it's kind.

Jim.

Yeah, I read it a long while back. Simon Reynolds is a sort of
acquaintance of mine. He spends about four pages on Killing Joke and
about seventeen pages on Scritti Politti.

Good otherwise, though.

Arrrgh!
now i have the Word Girl stuck in my head.

Actually, after not hearing SP for literally decades, you've prompted me to Spotify'd them & am rather enjoying the nostalgia.
I'd forgotten what a magical-breathy quality Greens' voice had. Surprised to just read he's Welsh.

It's funny, I find that songs/bands I hated in the eighties I rather enjoy hearing now.
Probably because they take me right back to my teens.
Middle-aged misty-eyed nostalgia!

- hopefully those 17 pages were describing how pathetically crap they were.

I liked it. As usual the British are lauded as inventing another genre of music (post-punk because of PiL) which is debatable and depends on who you ask. But it was well written and researched.
