Totally agree with regard to Sennheisers. They fuck up easily. AKGs are some of the most reliable that I've found.
Sticky-in earphones are a fast track to tinnitus and/or a perforated eardrum, as without airspace (necessasry for correct aural physiology) the membrane is permanently stretched when using them. They can be even worse for you than a loud concert.

I’s say don’t go for a name brand – Sennheisers for example – they make some decent headphones, but bang for buck is poor IMHO. I did a whole lot of research on the forums (when the site wants to work) at:
www.headphones.com.au
Bought myself an obscure set of phones from a company in Asia somewhere that no one had heard of, and bang for buck was amazing. $AUD100 or so got me an amazing pair of in-ears.
And don’t use the built-in sound-card on a PC, get an add-on or external card.
Bang for buck, IMO headphones give you the best sound for the least cash, but you do tend to get fatigue listening to them for too long.

Coo - I like the look of these. I'd pay around £80 easily (birthday in 5 weeks - don't ask which one, OK yes it's THAT one) for a decent sounding pair that will LAST.
Like you, I've been through a few...
Thanks for the suggestions, folks.

After years of going through just about every type of ear bud on the market (including Bose Beats) I finally settled on these:

They're a tad pricey (I think they ran me about $100), but sound amazing and are are incredibly durable. The cable are almost like rope, so they don't twist & disconnect the wires inside like most (plastic/rubber) ear bud cables. They come with a variety of different sized silicone ear tips, which is nice as well. Highly recommended.

Seeing as you are all music connoisseurs, advice for my next pair of earphones is requested.
My latest in a long line of earphones have just broken (at the jack plug, sound in the left ear was going and has now gone) and I am completely lost without them.
I had Klipsch Image S4s - they sounded great, if a little buzzy on low frequencies. I like the in-ear buds because they block external noise really well and no-one else has to suffer (or complain about) my choice of choons.
I seem to be replacing earphones every 15 months or so, which is a complete pisser. But they do get heavy use.
Thanks,
Janean
