[kj] New Poll

Best song from last 2 LPs, Kali Yuga. Best song on OTG, My Love Of This Land. Punk Britannia series, predictable. First episode was very much like the John Robb book which I have with lots missing. Why no Wire, Pop Group not mentioned, although Mark Stewart did appear, Subway Sect. Also what about groups like Tubeway Army & Cure, who whilst u could argue were not punk per se, had punk attitude & sound at that time. No Crass, Discharge, the TG Prostitution show which could have been mentioned as also highly controversial at the time, the list goes on. I have seen comment that the third prog will feature PIL, Fall, Joy Division. I hope it is more than media-darling predictable!!
The Fungus Moth.
Challenging the Future.

I genuinely like Tiahuanaco. America has its moments, and so does Outside the Gate.
At the time, I searched desperately for signs of the real Joke underneath the gloss - and found them. I still can. But the end result is a travesty. And the lyrics are dreadful - really obvious and clunky, and verbose. Less is more, as they knew on the first few albums.

oth of those tracks have that great wall of sound we love from KJ, w/o the
etro-metal chug chug guitar. One thing that is tiring me out on the last 2
lbums though is Jaz' throaty bellowing. Others have commented on this. It
orks on a song like the title song from Hossanas or Blood on Your Hands,
ut gets really tiring when it's done on most of the tracks on the last 2

Reality "has it in" for Killing Joke.?
A couple of weeks ago I saw an interview on public television with Tom
Morello of Rage Against The Machine where he mentioned a string of
influences. Killing Joke was of course left out

This three-part documentary seems to be following a timeline. Last week
was
pre-punk, tonight is punk proper, suggesting next week will be post-punk.
What are the chances of any KJ footage or even an interview next week?
They
have interviewed punk stalwarts like Lydon for this series, and also Henry
Rollins ( who crops up quite a lot on TV these days) and even Jim Kerr of
Simple Minds, though he was titled under his old Glasgow punk band's name
(Spunk & the Bubbles...?).
If they show a 'Post-Punk at the BBC' after the documentary, would there
be
any Killing Joke BBC performances in the archive to show? And on that
matter, I wonder why KJ have never been on Jools Holland.

Might not be popular choice, but fuck it, I would go for European Super

It was just so different and fresh, but also fit in to what was/is
happening
politically in Europe and I guess the world in general.
Choice may change in time, as MMXII still growing on me by the day.

One vote only, no 'close seconds' or any of that shenanigans.
In Cythera. No contest, easily among the top 5 singles they've ever
released.

Depends on what mood I'm in - I've had Fema Camp going round and round and
round (and round) in my head for the last couple of days - wish it'd go
away
right now. But yes - Ghosts of Ladbroke Grove as it was something a bit
different

"This World Hell" is indeed crap.
My reasons for loving "The Raven King" are almost exclusively due to a
certain recurring part wherein Geordie hits a specific couple of
chords. For my money, they singularly capture *THAT* Killing Joke
sound that no one else is able to replicate.
If you can't appreciate it, that's your loss.
If we're being honest, I don't find myself returning to MMXII that
often. Sorry, there it is.

I never liked "The Raven King or European Superstate". Though the live
version of European Superstate sounded better.. MMXii does it better for
me
as its more consistent, consistent like Extremities, Pandemonium, and the
first 3 LPs. All those, I can listen all the way through. AD, KJ 2003,
Hossanas, I have to program or skip tracks...
I quite like The Raven King but it is somewhat formulaic and almost in
"comfortable" U2 or Coldplay territory.

Might not be popular choice, but fuck it, I would go for European Super
State J
It was just so different and fresh, but also fit in to what was/is
happening
politically in Europe and I guess the world in general.
Choice may change in time, as MMXII still growing on me by the day.

Depends on what mood I'm in - I've had Fema Camp going round and round and
round (and round) in my head for the last couple of days - wish it'd go
away
right now. But yes - Ghosts of Ladbroke Grove as it was something a bit
different

Take heart, Jon - it is once again a testament to KJ's broad palette that
people can appreciate such diverse tracks.
