[kj] Hollywood Babylon

They're all good, in fact would b hard pressed to name a KJ track that is shit, although I was astounded, dissapointed and cheated when I first heard BTATS in 1987.  Tracks like Southern Sky, now admit it that is bad although lyrics are good.  What were they trying to do, along with some of the cringe-worthy images at that time as well, looking more like Spanadau Ballet!!

Never heard this track before to my knowledge, certainly not as bad as was led to believe, in fact, dare I say it it may even be better than? couple of tracks associated with MMXII or at least as good.? I think my days of K Joke infatuation may be over as realise that will probably never produce another LP that will suit my temperamental situation.? Or this could be just over-exposure to them over the last few years, as other bands have fallen from view etc.? Just need break really so looking fwd to 2 non-Joke gigs this summer, at least.

The first time I was able to see the Joke live was in Portland, Oregon for the Pandemonium tour.? One thing that stands out from that show
was that about 30 seconds into the first song (I think it was Communion), Jaz turned around,
pointed an accusatory finger at Dugmore and shot at least a hundred nearly visible poison tipped daggers into him with his eyes!? Dugmore had wavered a bit on the tempo...

The drums on Pandemonium have been seriously helped by a PC. Was?Dugmore that tight live?

Dugmore was a brilliant drummer but didn't he cost too much?

Looking back on that era exorcism was outstanding, and the single with the remixes and whiteout alt mix was bril.
I still love Labyrinth cos nothing else sounds like it
was shocked the first time heard communion studio track after only hearing it on the interrupted radcliffe session by how sharp the vocal were and the th epercussion sound.
jana is a wonderful pop song
Maths of chaos ?imo fucked up could've been much better

Outside the Gate still sounds good
I love it.
In some ways could be described as the ultimate killing joke album as with all the
rumours of it being conceived with the devil
when i first heard it i was shocked it was a
joke,
but still very very good music
with proper promotion my love of this land could've been a hit
and who could forget the ceefax review of America-'disturbinglg good'!

I agree with Adam. Just heard it after about, oh, say, at least 10 or 12 years and though it could be better IMO it sounds good. It's very
MathOfChaos w/Whiteout & w/some Savage Freedom remix-whose-name-I-can't recall. The guit-riff is
beautiful if tho too solid-body sounding, as someone else has said. (Was Math.Of.Chaos done with a solid-body (LesPaul?)? I can't tell. )?

Dugmore I've always liked in the band's Panda-Demo-90s-era KJ sound. His drums are not (completely) washed out but instead still add to the overall sound (to the extent Jaz let him, anyway). His playing is less baroque than Atkins' but props and drive the songs thru enough with a strong plod and nice use of the snare, methinks. And although not of KJ, Dugmore was an integral part of the KJ SOUND (2cds, +singles and one-offs). Close enough; I give him credit. I'd thank him if I saw him (which I actually have, indirectly).
Oh, and yeah, it's too long of a song also.?So what's new.?

I think the "cheese"/sleaze/controversy of the host-film "Showgirls" ?this little diddy attached itself onto all remora-like really has tainted listeners to some extent (I mean, c'mon: her, him,IT!) so it's good a decade or
so has past before i heard it again.

Here it is,?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XjjK3XF0xc

Now, about Outside The Gate... .. . .?
? . .. I think we'll have to resort to The Doha Debates to decide that one. Right after they settle the issue of Punk Provenance: London v. New York.

I beg to differ on both points Mr. Moss!

1.? The main guitar riff
that comes in right after the intro drum roll is super speedy and complex and
reeks of Geordiness!? The tone isn't his usual but I think the playing is pure him.? The riff sounds like a first cousin of the one in Mathematics of Chaos.

2.? I've always liked this tune.? I think the lyrics are brilliant.? Subject matter that no one ever talks about but should - reminds me of the short story "Kreutzer Sonata" by Tolstoy..? The vocal melody and delivery are really strong and I love the dark trancey dancey element of the music..

Then again, I think Outside The Gate is massive.? ;)

Adam

Just "found" this again.

2 points.

1. I'm not convinced its Geordie playing. Could be a youth Jaz thing cos the guitar sounds wrong.

2.? It's shit.

He seemed to do fine in Detroit on the pandemonium tour
