John Lydon thought he was a genius. I interviewed PiL in the US once during
their McGeoch era.
John (M) picked us up in his car at our hotel. He was parked in an
underground car park, and was
playing a tape of whale songs at extreme volume. All these moans and
screeches were echoing
round the car park, we sat there in the car for about 10 minutes watching
people coming in to
get their cars and backing away slowly, not being able to work out where
the noises were coming
from. John said he got inspiration for guitar sounds hearing the whalesong
bouncing around
the concrete... he was a thoroughly nice bloke, you'll be glad to know. Was
sorry when he went.
