XTRMNTR is excellent, and they rocked live at that point.  Before and after, I think they've promised more than they've delivered.  Gillespie's opinion of himself is a bit tedious too.

yeah, I picked up on XTRMNTR after the NME Top 50 albums listed it as number 2 
in 2000 - I'd not gone near them previously though had seen them as a support 
act back in 1987.

Ended up seeing them a few times after that including one legendary night where 
after the main gig, Bobby Gillespie came back on with bassist Mani plus Ron & 
Scott Asheton then stormed through half a dozen Stooges songs - there had been 
some mention on the gig flyer but I'd assumed we'd missed it - my friends, maybe 
10 years younger, really did not realise what a significant moment this was - 
this well pre-dated any of the Iggy & The Stooges reunion stuff by a few years.
