So I’m reading Bob Gruen’s bio, Right Place, Right Time, and of course there is a fascinating Killing Joke story in there. He mentions that after his marriage ended in the late 70s he started dating a 20-year-old from NJ named Pati Giordano. He said she was quite emotionally volatile and they would often get into these knock down drag out fights. While they were “dating,” she started living with Dee Dee Ramone. At one point, Gruen said she moved to London to be with the singer from Killing Joke and that they were even engaged to be married. A short while later during one trip to London, Gruen ran into her. She had just come from a hospital after having bandages for a broken nose removed. She had said something to one of the singer’s bandmates and he punched her in the face. She broke off the engagement soon after. She died from AIDS in 1995.
