I don't think they ever got as far as doing any actual recording. I think it was just more a matter of personal chemistry -- and I do dimly remember a vague allegation that Andy might have been grappling with a drug problem, but who knows? The party line, at the time, was that he was "miserable," which seems odd, after only a three-day stint.
To your point, however, he was indeed a giant of a bass player -- a fact that gets largely overlooked in the rush to rightfully praise Johnny Marr's guitar heroics and, of course, the preening insufferableness of Morrissey, a condition that seems to worsen with every passing year. If the word "miserable" is to be credibly branded, there's your perfect target right there, but I digress.

Sad to hear about Andy Rourke’s death today. Still recall that photo of him, Jaz, Geordie and Martin Akins toasting the new line-up, only to have him sacked a few days later. Appreciated the Smiths (not the biggest fan) and he was an incredible bass player…does anyone know if they ever recorded anything together?
