I'd be surprised if l3p was ever installed in that location on the pair
server - we don't have write access to it, we'd just install it in our
home dir.  Since it's not there, I have to guess it never was?

I can try compiling the linux version - hopefully, the fact that we're
not running on linux won't be too much of a problem!
