The Standard Weekly

So Much to Do, So Little Time.
By Rhiannon Smith, Marketing Development Coordinator

Everyone manages their time; its just that some people are better at it =
than others. We've all had days when we've felt that we had so much to =
accomplish and not enough hours in the day. You have clients to see, =
calls to make, referrals to ask for, seminars to plan, =
policies/contracts to follow up on, and still have time for your family =
and social life. Where will you get the time for it all? We can't =
create more hours in the day, but we can manage our time in a way that =
we can accomplish more than what we think is possible.

There are many strategies that can help people gain control over their =
time. Here are some helpful time management tips:

1. Get rid of clutter! Working in an unorganized environment can be =
distracting. File important policy-related papers for your client and =
throw away the useless ones. Keep on your desk only the materials you =
will need for the task or case you are working on at the time.=20
2. Plan your day the night before. Before you leave the office in =
the evening, make a list of everything you need to have accomplished by =
the next evening. What follow-up calls do you have to make the next =
day? Make sure to list any sales appointments, meetings, or seminars =
you may have that will require your attention the next day.
3. Prioritize. Go through your list and rank each task in order of =
importance. Maybe one client has a large case that needs your closest =
attention. Once you have this, you can make your "to-do" list. Start =
out with the most important and difficult tasks, like closing that big =
annuity sale, for example. Cross the completed tasks off your list when =
you are finished. =20
4. Observe how you use your time. Make any necessary modifications =
to your behavior. If you find that you take too many coffee breaks, =
engage in too much small talk, or any other unproductive activities, =
work on eliminating some of these behaviors.
5. Finish your main job of the day before you leave in the evening. =
Having completed your "big" task will make you feel good about yourself. =
For instance, send your latest annuity sale to Standard Life of Indiana =
and mark that task off your list.

Follow these tips and you will soon start to see that you can gain =
control over your time. All you need is a little organization and you =
will start getting more accomplished each day. With your "extra" time =
you will be able to see more prospective clients and make more sales. =
Remember.time is money. =20

By the way.
from Maggie Staib, Standard Life Master Professional

We've issued a lot of annuity contracts recently with Amendments due to =
incomplete applications. The most common areas that are left blank or =
incomplete are:

1) On Equity Products: The allocation between fixed and equity is =
missing. If you don't see a place for the allocation, perhaps you don't =
have the correct application.
=20
2) On Immediate Annuities: Question # 6, (the payout period) for a =
SPIA or SPIA Plus is not complete. If you are writing a SPIA Plus and =
don't know the exact time frame, simply write "Life Expectancy" in the =
space provided.

3) All Products: Beneficiary Information is missing or many times =
the app will=20
Indicate, "see attached" but there is no attachment.

We would rather not amend contracts because it causes our system to hold =
your commissions until the original signed Amendment is received. So =
before you put your next application in the mail, please pause a moment =
and make sure nothing is left blank or incomplete - you'll be doing =

Wine Not Anymore?
Buttery Soft Pretzels
Get ready for Oktoberfest on September 20 with this recipe!
Ingredients               =20

  a.. 4 teaspoons active dry yeast=20
  b.. 1 teaspoon white sugar=20
  c.. 1 1/4 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)=20
  d.. 5 cups all-purpose flour=20
  e.. 1/2 cup white sugar=20
  f.. 1 1/2 teaspoons salt=20
  g.. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  h.. 1/2 cup baking soda=20
  i.. 4 cups hot water=20
j.. 1/4 cup kosher salt, for topping

 Directions
1 In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in warm water. =
Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
2 In a large bowl, mix together flour, 1/2 cup sugar, and salt. Make =
a well in the center; add the oil and yeast mixture. Mix and form into a =
dough. If the mixture is dry, add one or two tablespoons of water. Knead =
the dough until smooth, about 7 to 8 minutes. Lightly oil a large bowl, =
place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with =
plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 =
hour.
3 Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). In a large bowl, =
dissolve baking soda in hot water.
4 When risen, turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and =
divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and twist into =
a pretzel shape. Once all of the dough is all shaped, dip each pretzel =
into the baking soda solution and place on a greased baking sheet. =
Sprinkle with kosher salt.
5 Bake in preheated oven for 8 minutes, until browned.
