From DianaGM at dgmweb.net Wed Jun 10 10:57:24 2009 From: DianaGM at dgmweb.net (Diana Gale Matthiesen) Date: Wed, 10 Jun 2009 10:57:24 -0400 Subject: [RASEY-DNA] Summer Sale on DNA testing Message-ID: <4415B21A98C941A2AFA01CC49C50053F@HP> Hello List, FamilyTreeDNA is having a promotional Summer Sale on their "Y-DNA37+mtDNA" test. This bundle consists of the 37-marker Y-DNA test plus the basic mtDNA test (HVR1 = HyperVariable Region 1). The regular Group Price for this test is $248. For a limited time, it is on sale for only $119 (plus $4 S&H) -- more than 50% off! The sale began yesterday and ends two weeks from today, on Wednesday, 24 Jun 2009; the kit must be paid for by 30 Jun 2009. Because this bundle includes a Y-DNA test, only males can take advantage of the offer. If you plan to test someone in the next year or so, but haven't found the person, yet, I would recommend taking advantage of the sale price, now. The test kit has a long shelf life, so you can keep it on hand until you find the right test subject. If past history is any indication, tests for new members won't go on sale again until the winter holiday season. Diana DISCLAIMER: I am not an employee of FTDNA. I'm the volunteer administrator of the RASEY Y-DNA Surname Project based at FTDNA, and I do not profit in any way from this testing. This message is brought to you in furtherance of the project, which is an aid to all RASEY researchers. From DianaGM at dgmweb.net Wed Jun 10 11:43:20 2009 From: DianaGM at dgmweb.net (Diana Gale Matthiesen) Date: Wed, 10 Jun 2009 11:43:20 -0400 Subject: [RASEY-DNA] comparing testing laboratories Message-ID: Hello List, If you are considering Y-DNA testing and haven't decided where to test, there is something to bear in mind when making comparisons between laboratories... Ancestry-DNA includes four very rare markers in its counts, namely: DYS19b, 464e, 464f, and 464g. Almost no one has these markers, which means their 33-marker test is really a 29-marker test, and their 46-marker test is really a 42-marker test. FamilyTreeDNA does not count these four rare tests in its standard bundles; yet, if you have any of them, they will test them without additional charge. If FTDNA counted them, their 12-marker test would be 13 markers, their 25-marker test would be 29 markers, their 37-marker test would be 41 markers, and their 67-marker test would be 71 markers. This sale is on its bundled "Y-DNA37+mtDNA" test, which consists of a 37-marker Y-DNA test plus a basic mtDNA test (HVR1). The regular Group Price for this test is $248. The sale price is just $119 (plus $4 S&H) -- more than 50% off! The kit must be purchased by June 30th and paid for by July 7th. If you were tested elsewhere, this price is $30 less than the regular "Conversion Kit" price, so if you have been considering being tested at FTDNA, this is the better bargain. From DianaGM at dgmweb.net Tue Jun 30 06:35:53 2009 From: DianaGM at dgmweb.net (Diana Gale Matthiesen) Date: Tue, 30 Jun 2009 06:35:53 -0400 Subject: [RASEY-DNA] Summer Sale ends today Message-ID: <32BC24838654428CA7E99653CC43EE24@HP> Hello List, Just a reminder that FTDNA's "Summer Sale" ends today. This is a real bargain on the bundled 37-marker Y-DNA test plus basic mtDNA test at over 50% off. This test normally costs $248, and it's on sale for $119! But the sale ends today. If you are considering having someone tested, even if you have yet to find the person, you can purchase the kit, now, and use it later. The kits have a long shelf life. Even if you intend to upgrade later to 67 markers, this discounted test plus the upgrade from 37 to 67 markers ($119 + $99 = $218) is still cheaper than the regular group price of a 67-marker test alone ($248) -- and you get the mtDNA test thrown in. To take advantage of this price, you must purchase your kit, today, and pay for it by July 7th (you can wait to do the upgrade later).
