>From my experience, short trousers for adults are indeed illegal to wear in
public in Saudi, (illegal in the law of the Saudi much feared, religious
police)also I never saw one person wearing Western clothes,it's just not
practical to wear trousers when its 120 degrees.I even took to wearing an
arubaya(or whatever it was called),as it was just soo hot.
     Though in Pakistan , Western dress is much more common,along with local
clothes and sarongs.    Yes, its also correct that shorts are only worn by
schoolkids and the very poor, long trousers are for the people who can
afford them.

Thats not actually correct.
If you mean by western clothes, trousers and shirt are common but you
could argue just as valuably their is an economic reason as well in
this.

Shorts are not, in my experience, illegal, where, if you take Pakistan
they tend to be part of the schoolboy dress code. Shorts may not be
considered suitable
