[kj] your first "punk" gig.....

"HATED" was really good I thought. The thing is when people think of
G.G. and his music, they only seem to dwell on the later stuff. Prison
changed G.G. for sure-it pissed him off. All that me against the world
stuff got on my nerves after a while. He turned himself into a freak
show. People really need to listen to the old G.G. stuff w/ the JABBERS.
"Always was,is,and shall be" is one of the best punk records ever - the
music is great which is something G.G. lacked in his later years. I
stopped listening to G.G. after "You give love a bad name" (I think the
bass player from PRONG played on that one) Everything after that is shit
in my opinion. I did support G.G. during that time it was just harder to
respect him after the music took second stage.
Didn't George Tabb (or does he now) have a column in Maximum R n'
R?

Cheers, Bill.
Wow, sorry to hear that about Merle.
George Tabb fronts the entirely underwhelming band Furious George, but
he did play with GG at one point I believe (and was also one of his pall
bearers at his funeral, I believe) He also played in Letch Patrol, False
Prophets and Iron Prostate. He used to write for NYPress. Not sure what
he's up to at the moment, but he's a good guy.
As someone who knew GG, what was your impression of Todd Phillips'
documentary, "Hated"?

No, I don't know George - but I know who he is. Merle is a
piece of shit, always in his brothers shadow and now trying to control
anything to do with G.G. for his own financial gain. Merle was cool back
in the day,but as soon as G.G. died he turned into a money grubbing dope
fiend. My friend was G.G.'s best friend for years and owns a lot of 1 of
a kind early G.G. LP's (G.G. used to do all the covers by hand) Merle
was trying to get these records from him and made a big stink when he
wouldn't give them up. I own a few paintings done by G.G. and a lock of
his pubic hair that he sent me from prison years ago.

Hahaha....I had a chance to go see GG Allin at the Space at
Chase on 3rd Avenue (but completely wimped out, because clearly I'm a
huge pussy). The show ended up being the one filmed for the documentary
"Hated" (and judging from the footage, I did the right thing by staying
home). I had every intention of going to see him at one point, but then
he up and died on us (and not in the way he'd promised --- that he was
going to shove a stick of dynamite up his ass, light it and run into the
audience, taking a few folks with him).
I used to see his brother, Merle, hanging around St.Mark's Place
a lot. I talked to him once or twice, and he's actually an entirely
nice, approachable dude.
FREAKS FAGGOTS DRUNKS AND JUNKIES is also a great goddamn
record, I don't care what anyone says.
GG ALLIN....Rest in peace.

Billy....did you know George Tabb by any chance?

My first Punk gig was G.G. ALLIN- it was the first time he
ever ate his own shit on stage. It was in a room at a fucking iceskating
rink. I saw G.G. about 10 other times after that- he was a personal
friend for years. I played in a band called BLOODY MESS and the SKABS,
my singer was a good friend who introduced me to him. Those shows were
as intense as a show can be....scary

You know... I could have sworn The Plimsouls did. For I remember
people wearing R.I.P. shirts with them on at my school. I have tried to
google it but nothing is coming up. It was so long ago - LB
