my understanding was that the person ideally seen to replace Jose was not
available and so they remained with him last summer in the vain hope that
the differences would settle down. Grant was initially hoped to be an
interface but was seen as a temporary replacement to get to this point where
the ideal candidate would be possibly available.
The awarding of the extra contract was a PR exercise to settle players and
the media.
This therefore puts a tint on some of the potential choices. rijkaard would
be a potential target who would not be potentially available till this
summer.
Deschamps has been aproached but could have been employed last summer which
puts him in a runners up slot. Sven is suddenly available again. Laudrup
doesnt really light up the sky and Hiddink isnt interested.
I'd love Hughes and a Zola partnership, and Hughes has done well with
limited resources but has the strength to deal with the likes of a Drogba.
Hughes has a passion with Chelsea thats clear to see when hes on the TV and
Zola has been giving soundbites for a while now that would signal that he's
going to be here one day.
i still cant get into wearing replica shirts though.
