You're missing one thing. Ones inherent moral values should not dictate society.

That implies that I’m not part of society, which I am, very much so…so I have to vehemently but amicably disagree with you on that. 100%! I’m a son / brother / uncle / nephew / cousin / employee / friend / colleague / taxpayer / consumer / fellow sentient conscious being. I have a vested interest in society, I contribute to it, I educate myself about it, take part in debate about it, it affects me and I affect it, every single day. Remove someone from the feeling that they are part of a tribe and they get ill, they lose their spark…look at all the people who slip between the cracks in society. Ostracism from society (self or other inflicted) can be enough to cause mental illness, take bullying for example. We are social, tribal beings, without it we lose some of our sense of meaning. My morals are affected by and affect society. Society includes me! One six point six billionth maybe, but that’s as much as anyone else…

Re weed - I know several people who have achieved plenty while smoking weed daily (First class honours Masters in Psych for example), so I’d hesitate to diagnose your friend’s problems as actually *caused* by weed…(alcohol will do a far more effective job if you want to destroy neurons, plus all sorts of other nice side effects). If you sit around all day watching daytime telly, or drinking, you’ll end up in the same boat as the average clichéd pot-head. It’s the lack of spark that’s the problem, not the weed, as far as my understanding of the evidence suggests. Personally I’m more worried about sweeteners, colourings, flavourings, preservatives, pesticides, chemicals in shampoo, deodorant, exhaust fumes, pollution, (and the fact that I live within 50m of a cellphone tower, work nights, and in an open plan office, all of which are bad for health…oh and I sit right next to a fucking laser printer, which has recently been implicated in lung problems due to toner dispersal…awesome)

Oh that’s right…I have a mate who won a competitive car rally whilst stoned. Then there’s Michael Phelps, arguably the best swimmer of all time…etc etc. Not saying weed is totally harmless, but you have to have some perspective. (Anabolic steroids are another drug that doesn’t deserve the rap it gets either, but that’s another kettle of fish). Joe Rogan has some interesting things to say about weed smoking, I agree with him when he says that practically everything he does is enhanced by smoking weed, he gets shitloads done

In terms of prostitution – good call, criminalising it doesn’t get rid of it. I have no real stance on its legal status, I’d have to meditate on that one for a long while. I was commenting on its moral status. That’s not a cop out, just saying I haven’t given it enough thought.

I think a lot of people who defend it aren’t being honest with themselves. It’s gotta be a degrading thing to do.

I suppose at the end of the day, you have to weigh up the harm it does vs the restriction in personal freedoms. Personally I’m fine relinquishing my right - unexercised, so far - to give head for cash. Doing quite well getting shafted by The Man already…(it really doesn’t hurt if you breathe out…)

As such, I don't smoke marijuana. I don't care for it and I have no interest in it and I have
some friend whose brains are basically one big pot plant.

However, I still think it's pointless and stupid to outlaw it. Because something is not to my liking
does not mean I have a right or a need to rid the world of it.

If I had a daughter and she ended up a prostitute I'd be very disappointed (to say the very least) and yes I would
wonder where I went wrong or what I did that she ended up as such. It still does not change my opinion on the
LAW that is imposed on others. If she became a prostitue, chances are she'd do it legally or Illegaly.

They are 2 separate entities and should be treated as such.

All the arguments I’ve had with people about prostitution boiled down to this: Regardless of the ‘no victim’, ‘oldest profession in the book’ ‘consenting trade between adults’, ‘just making use of god given talents’ stuff…ask yourself this. If your daughter ended up as a prostitute, and be honest…aren’t you gonna think you’ve fucked up somewhere along the line as a parent?

It’s intriguing sometimes posing that one, you see the inertia of someone trying not to have to do a U-turn on an argument they thought they had won based on logic, but forced to face the fact that if you condone something for everyone, that includes your (perhaps hypothetical) children as well.

I agree with you about the massage parlors issue -- but don't waste your energy defending either of those blowhards. Neither are deserving of it.
And given that O'Reilly has written a book called "Cultural Warrior," he *is* a hypocrite. I couldn't care less about him (or the Fat One, either -- who would be taken even less seriously if he had the cajones to be a moral compass, which is he is *not*) -- but had to point that out.

Happy Wednesday,

Personally I support the concept of those "Massage Parlors" as well as the legalizing of

prostitution. If a man/woman wants to have sex and someone is willing to pay, what the hell is the problem?

It's all based on the "religious morality" there is in essence nothing wrong with it.

And why would you hope they get caught by such a thing? In order to say "ohhhhhh you hypocrite" because

you don't agree with them? (nor do I recall Rush claiming to be a moral compass. Conservatism has many factions)

What if they never get caught? That's just silly talk.

Ever hear an smoker hacking his lungs out preach to a youngin about not smoking?

He might even do it while have a smoke, but it doesn't mean he is wrong.

TTrue, true. That bunch just cross my threshhold of repugnance beyond which i just change the channel.

I hope Billy O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh both get "Punk'd" at some local

"massage parlor" - but instead of Ashton Kutcher jumping out of the sauna

saying "Punk'd" it should be New York Atty.General Andy <http://www.thecronline.com/uploads/magart_images/Andrew-Cuomo2%5b1%5d.JPG> Cuomo with arrest warrants and subpoenas.

right off the top of me head, theres,

- Keith Olbermann, as of when he finally flipped his lid (after apparently straining and bruising the left half of his

brain?), and

- The Four Clowns on The View (Whoopi, Joy, Sheri "I do Believe the Earth is flat"[wtf?], and Barbara Walters)

who, appropriately enough, always sit to the left of the table.

- Rosie O'Donnell (oh god..where does one start?)

- Reverend Al Sharpton, (racist, divisive social parasite leeching his own)

- Eleanor Clift (a sycophant par excellence)

People are always willing to parrot plattitudes they've learned from anti-communist teachers, parents, etc., w/o really thinking about them. But in the US there is a nightly segment on nbc news about how, in the tough economy, there is an outpouring of people helping each other, doing things for free, giving more to the less fortunate, etc., w/o looking for any praise or payback. And don't forget that we've never lived in a time when poeple in power are prevented form being corrupt, so how can we know if everyone in power will automatically be corrupt?

I find it interesting when some people term humanity as some form of parasite. Do these people include themselves in the analogy, or not? If yes, do they use the idea as some form of condonation for not giving a sh*t?

There is a trend, particularly in industrial music, to adopt this idea....hell of a way to perpetuate the inert, or do they feel that they are in touch with the zeitgeist?

mankind has and continues to rule to the detriment of others . Any leader showing compassion is usually assassinated.Power corrupts and usually those at the top are moulded and coersed by the host of sychophants and other manipulators who have thier own agenda . No doubt i will be scoffed and jeered at when i say that mankind is incapable of looking after himself and the world will only change for the better when jesus comes to right the wrongs ...remember how they laughed at the people attempting to make flight possible ...i rest my case

Like a coup or an asassination? I wish i had your faith, but 99% of the time, those that rise to the top make damn sure they can stay there. You can never stop those that wish to suceed at the expense of others, "feather the nest and fuck the rest" etc. The concept of a council like the Roman senate was supposed to keep things fair and right but ultimately backhanders, coersion and corruption take over, all to satisfy the greedy few, and those Wolves ALWAYS come dressed in Sheeps clothing.

Nah, i think i'l just stick to treating people like i want to be treated myself and hope it eventually rubs off on everyone.

That's the key--how to keep people from being top of the pile and ripping others off. The decision-making has to be collectivized and people have to be accountable (the opposite of the US bankers) and there has to a way to recall leaders when they do try to climb above others...

Coleman is writing a book about permaculture, free energy, freedom and freedom-loving individuals. The main thesis is on how to survive without money. The book will be divided into two parts; one part concentrating on the music and other on the ideas behind it. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaz_Coleman#cite_note-9> <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaz_Coleman#cite_note-9> [10] The book is planned to be published in 2009. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaz_Coleman#cite_note-10> [11]
