I see that I have addressed precisely 0 of your points.
Without any evidence to support it, I reckon that Geordie's already sorted / is sorting the actual mixing of the audio, and sticking Mike's visuals on a DVD is not effort-intensive. I suspect that there are figures in mind as to the numbers of expressions of interest required to justify pressing the (for example) vinyl, so if there aren't sufficient vinyl pledges, the vinyl won't be pressed.
So the pledges are a commitment from us lot to actually buy stuff. I do agree that KJ must have a pretty good idea of the number of us who have collections to maintain, but I quite like the idea of saying "Yes, this sounds fantastic. Count me in."
This is different from the Marillion model. Their fans pay up front so that the band can pay for the studio time to record the material. In this case, the material is already recorded and ready to go.

Although Killing Joke aren't a small band like some who genuinely couldn't afford to release an album unless they reached the pledge amount, for which the system was presumably devised for in the first place, they don't sell huge quantities either and they do have a very loyal core following so it makes a bit of sense to me. I wish they wouldn't patronise us by saying they want the fans to get more involved, though.
