Alas no Jim, I've muddled who/what/where/when. I do it a lot.
Was the Taif gig the one where the support got all despondent & kept saying how crap they were? They all played Firebirds and were actually pretty good.

I dimly remember Raven was supposed to have approached Jaz and Geordie and said that he wants back in the band because he can do it better so it's not unfeasible that he went to see that lineup first. Would he have asked to rejoin if he honestly thought Taif was doing an excellent job? I didn't know him very well but he never seemed to have that kind of ego.
Jim.

Ah, was that the
Taif one. I definitely remember one there with Raven. Pre
and post Extremities?I'm getting old and
confused. Taif one was a great gig. I was at the
front opposite him. Had no idea who he was, just remember a
manic grin.At least I think I
do...

I was there - fantastic gig. I was stood watching the
support right at the back near the bar, looked to my left
and there was raven watching intently. Never occurred to me
to speak to him.
I think it was that one my that mum's car got
stolen from. Id borrowed it and parked on a really dodgy
side street!
I may be remembering it wrong but I think they played
there a couple of times in fairly close succession.
Shame the Internationals have gone, they were great
venues.

Can't remember the address, but Manchester
International II, if memory serves. Followed by the

And yeah, it was feckin amazing.

Jamie,
Was the Manchester gig the one at the International on
Plymouth Grove. Best KJ gig I've seen.

Not sure where it would go, but I'd find it a
home ;-) I know you love Extremities, but there are a few
tracks that don't really do it for me.
The two gigs in question were pretty mental anyway (the
Manc one in particular featured an ongoing battle between
two local gangs). Basically, we'd all suffered our way
through 1988 and Outside the Gate, and the Joke apparently
imploding... and suddenly here they were, with a load of new
tracks that stood up alongside the old material. I for one
was massively relieved!
The Manc gig was also the scene of one of my favourite
KJ moments. Most of you have heard it before (probably
several times) but I'll mention it briefly.
I hitchhiked up to Manchester, and was lucky with my
lifts so got there mid-afternoon. I found the venue, and
the doors were all open so I wondered in and found the Joke
doing their soundcheck. They played something as a band
(Frenzy, perhaps?) and then Jaz came and stood at the back
and listened while Geordie played Night Time on his own.
Jaz was obviously entranced, and so was I. There were bits
that I'd previously assumed were keyboards that were
actually guitar. Hearing Geordie on his own was
incredible.

I
love the Fanatic!
Where would you place it on Extremities though?
Never saw it live, I imagine it was mental!

Never got the Fanatic. I think it’s one they were
right to keep back. Like Feast Of Fools I find. A bit
generic.
I think their quality control
Is pretty damn good on the whole.

In fact
it's even pretty rare for them to play something and it
not appear on an official studio release (other than
retrospectives etc). Only ones I've personally seen
are the Fanatic (which I saw at those two UK gigs in spring
89) and Timewave (London). Always liked the Fanatic &
couldn't understand why it didn't make the album - I
think it's better than some of the tracks that did.

No, I don't think so. Sorry if I caused confusion by
appearing to
suggest that. I was trying to illustrate how relatively rare
it is for
songs to be dropped (either entirely or from albums) at the
live stage
without any sort of studio version or demo. So far the only
example
anyone has been able to come up with (other than 'Take
Take Take'
obviously) is 'The Hive', which was a precursor. I
guess there are
also those very early crap ones like 'You're Being
Followed'. I think
there was an early live version of 'Solitude' that
bore absolutely no
relation to the album version too.
