SVJENは、3月16日に第4回のネットワーキングセミナーを開催いたします。

今回は、起業のメッカ・シリコンバレーでも「きわめて稀にしか見られない」と言わ
れる連続起業家の一人、カムラン・エラヒアン氏をスピーカーにお招きし、貴重な起
業失敗談をお話しいただきます。

20年を超える起業家としてのキャリアの中で、エラヒアン氏は10社を起業され、4社
（CAE Systems, Cirrus Logic Inc., NeoMagic CorportionとCentillium
Communications）で大成功、1社で大失敗を経験されました。失敗は、誰にとっても
辛く、多くの場合、思い出したくもないものですが、エラヒアン氏は、あえてその大
失敗した会社・Momenta Corporationの名前を自分の車のライセンスプレートに刻み、
忘れないことで、今日の立場を築き上げたのだといいます。

エラヒアン氏は、1954年イランのテヘランで生まれ、18歳でアメリカに移住。コンピ
ュータ・サイエンスを学び、ヒューレット・パッカード社に入社後、スタンフォード
大学のジム・クラーク教授の下に送られ半導体設計を学びました。その後、CAE
Systems を創業し後に売却、Cirrus Logic Inc.を創業し株式公開と連続して成功を
重ねた後、1989年にシリコンバレーのトップVCから$40Mの資金を調達しペン入力コン
ピュータ開発ベンチャーであるMomenta Corporationを創業しましたが、そこで大失
敗を経験します。しかし、同氏は1993年にNeoMagic Corportionを創業し株式公開、
1997年にはCentillium Communicationsを創業し株式公開と再起復活を遂げました。

現在、エラヒアン氏は、ベンチャーキャピタリストとしてグローバルカタリストパー
トナーズの創業者兼会長を務め、ベンチャー企業を支援しています。失敗の中から這
い上がってきたエラヒアン氏の体験談と失敗から得られた教訓を聞くことができる貴
重な機会をどうぞお見逃しなく！

We all have heard the "Recipe for Success" stories.  For entrepreneurs,
knowing what leads to success is critically important.  If you read enough
of these stories, a pattern can begin to take shape.  However, no matter how
many successes you can point to, there are always more failures. It would
seem logical then, that knowing what causes failures is one key to future
success. Knowing what to avoid can prevent you from making the same mistake
that killed the last guy.  Unfortunately, we do not hear much about failures
in public... until now.

SVJEN is pleased to welcome Mr. Kamran Elahian as our speaker, who will
share with you his "Recipe for Failure".

Mr. Elahian (http://www.kamranelahian.com/) has experienced heady success as
well as despairing failure. He has co-founded more than half-a-dozen highly
successful companies, including CAE systems, Cirrus Logic Inc., NeoMagic
Corporation and Centillium Communications. But, it is his one failure -
Momenta Corporation - that he chooses to remember most. The license plate of
his red Ferrari reads Momenta - a caustic reminder of his fallibility that
keeps him grounded to reality. As Mr. Elahian says, "It reminds me not to be
too proud. I celebrate failure - it can temper your character and pave the
way for great achievement."
